Postgraduate Admissions

Eligibility Criteria


M.Tech – Masters in Technology

Admission to M.Tech programmes shall be open to candidates who have passed the Bachelor’s Degree examinations with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate of all the semesters of the degree examinations (45% for SC/ST candidates belonging to Karnataka). The candidate shall have passed Bachelor’s Degree as per the requirements and must have also taken at least one of the prescribed qualifying examinations as specified below.

M. Tech | Computer Network Engineering – Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics & Communication / Computer Science & Engineering / Information Science & Engineering or equivalent degree; AMIE in appropriate branch. PGCET or GATE: EC, CS

M. Tech | Computer Science & Engineering – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science & Engineering / Information Science & Engineering or equivalent degree; AMIE in appropriate branch. PGCET or GATE:  CS

M. Tech | Digital Communication Engineering – Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics & Communication / Electronics & Telecommunication / Telecommunication or equivalent degree; AMIE in appropriate branch. PGCET or GATE: EC, TE

M. Tech | VLSI Design & Embedded Systems – Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics & Communication / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering / Instrumentation Technology / Telecommunication Engineering / Electrical & Electronics / Bio-Medical Engineering / Medical Electronics or equivalent degree; AMIE in appropriate branch. PGCET or GATE: EC, EE, IT

M. Tech | Machine Design – Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Automobile Engineering or equivalent degree; AMIE in appropriate branch. PGCET or GATE: ME

MBA (Masters in Business Administration) – Admission to the MBA programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the Bachelor’s Degree examinations with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate of all the semesters of the degree examinations (45% for SC/ST candidates belonging to Karnataka). The candidate must have also taken at least one of the prescribed qualifying examinations: CMAT/ CAT/ MAT/ PGCET/KMAT etc.

MCA (Masters in Computer Applications) – Admission to MCA course shall be open to candidates who have passed the Bachelor’s Degree examinations with not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations (45% for SC/ST candidates belonging to Karnataka). The candidate shall have passed Bachelor degree with not less than 50% of marks in Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Computer Programming / Computer Applications / Business Mathematics/ Business Statistics as one of the optional subjects or electives at Degree Level. In the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, 45% of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission.

In addition, the candidate must have also taken at least one of the following entrance exams: PGCET / KMAT, etc.

M. Sc. in Engineering by Research – The candidates pursuing M.Sc. (Engg.) Degree by Research at the University, who have successfully completed the prescribed coursework in the first two semesters of study with outstanding merit of either a minimum CGPA of 7.75 out of 10 or 70% aggregate marks and published research papers in refereed journals or filed/obtained patents shall be eligible for upgradation to the M.Sc. (Engg.) + Ph. D Integrated Dual Degree programme, subject to approval by the Admissions Committee.

Admission to M.Sc. (Engg.) by Research Course is open to candidates who satisfy the following criteria:

1. Candidates who have passed B.E./B.Tech. examination of VTU or BE / B.Tech of any other recognized University, as equivalent thereto or any other examination recognized by this University as equivalent thereto and have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with not less than 60% of the marks in the aggregate, in the examinations of the semesters considered for the declaration of class/grade. However, a relaxation to the extent of 10% is allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST and any other category as notified by Government of Karnataka from time to time.

2. a) Teaching/Research Staff/Teaching Assistants, working in any Engineering College and Polytechnic Institutions recognized by AICTE either in the State of Karnataka or outside who have put in a minimum of one year of teaching experience in engineering colleges and who are sponsored by the respective Institutions/ DTE. or

b) Members working in the State Government/Central Government/ Quasi Government Organizations/Public Sector Industries/Reputed Private Industries provided they have put in a minimum of one year of working experience and are sponsored by the concerned Organizations. Or

c) Awardees of research fellowship by nationally recognized bodies like CSIR etc., provided they have put in a minimum of one year of working experience.

Admissions Process

Post Graduate Programmes (Engineering) – MTech
Students who wish to seek admission to CMRIT’s Post Graduate Programmes in engineering may do so through (1) Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) and Selection Process or (2) Management Admission Process.

Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) and Selection Process
The Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (exam conducted by www.kea.kar.nic.in) is conducted in the months of April/ May each year. This test is a requirement for admission to colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University. PGCET Counseling will be conducted based on the ranks that students (Karnataka candidates only) obtain in the written exam. Qualifying students can choose CMRIT at the time of Centralized Counseling.

Management Admission Process
Admission through this process is open to both Karnataka and non-Karnataka students. Eligible students (those who meet qualifying requirements as per the eligibility criteria) may contact the CMRIT Admissions Section in order to obtain the application form. Candidates will be selected based on their academic merit and aptitude.

Note: Candidates must have taken one of the following examinations in order to qualify:

  • Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET)
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

Admissions Procedure

  • Candidates must fill in the registration form. This is to be done at the CMRIT College Campus.
  • Visit the Admissions Section, and meet the Admissions Coordinator (Mrs. Revathi. R).
  • Admissions fee details will be shared with the prospective candidate.
  • Once the seat has been confirmed, candidates may fill out the application form and submit it along with the documents specified below.

Required Documents
The college requires that candidates submit the following documents at the time of admission.

(Please bring original documents along with 03 photocopies of the same).

  • Rank Card of the entrance exam taken.
  • Marks Card of Second PUC / 12th equivalent.
  • Transfer Certificate and Conduct Certificate from the Principal of the institution last attended.
  • Proof of Date of Birth – SSLC / 10th  pass certificate (original).
  • Degree Marks Cards of all Semesters
  • Photographs: Passport size: 4 Nos., Stamp size: 4 Nos.
  • Migration Certificate (for non-Karnataka students)
  • At the time of admission, candidates must submit all the originals, copies and other relevant documentation including the completed application form.

Note: Applications must be made only in the prescribed format. Applicants are requested to read the application form carefully before filling it up. The application is a key part of the admission process, and incomplete or false information will adversely affect admission.

The Management reserves the right of admission and allotment of the branch. Once a candidate has been admitted to a particular course, any request for refund of fees will not be entertained.
